Pokémon FireRed - Review

Plot

What can I say? The original is the best. The plot in this game is wholly based off of the first games, but with added extras. It's still the same "Gotta Catch 'Em All" plot as other games... but who didn't like the Kanto region back in the day? xD
The Sevii islands are a great addition to the plot in this game. It gives the game a new feel, even though it's a remake, and also opens the Kanto Region to the rest of the Poké-world through the Trade Center Project which you help with later in the game.
FireRed also gave people the chance to link up and play mini-games such as the Jump Rope game.
But, like most Pokémon games, after you beat the storyline, it can get awfully boring. (Especially if you're not really into "Catching 'Em All", like me.)

Graphics

I loved the graphics in this game. Everything flowed smoothly from route to route. The sprites also had an update for these games- an improvement from R/S in both sprite work and the maps.
There's not really much I can say I didn't like here.

Features/Originality

Surprisingly, I found this game pretty original, despite the fact it is a remake of the older games. I think it was the fact that it included so much more than the older games did; such as the Vs Seeker (a god-send! xD) and other items. What really separated this game from the old versions is the extended storyline. The Sevii Islands (as mentioned before) are a great asset to this game. Not only is it a new place to explore, but it incorporates Hoenn and Johto Pokémon into the region.
One of the lesser features was also one of my favourites. At last, I could see the items I was using on my Pokemon and in my bag. (I was freaked when I saw a Max Revive for the first time xD)
One of the major disappointments was the Pokédex... so hard to use. xP
Unfortunately, they didn't include Pokémon contests in Kanto. Though this wouldn't really be keeping with the remake theme, I would have still liked to see one on one of the Sevii islands or something.

Pokémon

Well... not really much to comment on here. No new Pokémon, but the old ones did have a comeback in a big way in the new graphics. Um... that's it for here. xD

Overall

Overall, FireRed was a joy to play and I would recommend it to anyone as a great game to buy. (With a sticker of warning: After the Elite Four and the Sevii Islands it gets boring!) xD Though, a must-have for any Pokémon fan.
